Independance Day...

My thoughts on Celebrating our 60th Independance day. India gained its Independance on 15th Aug 1947.. after more than a century under colonial rule..

Glorious is our past
Fierce the struggle
the masses martyred
their sacrifice .. regal

The sweat the toil
the rebuke the oppression
the callous foriegn reggression
does it not make your blood boil?

We are now free, living our forefathers dream
enjoying the spoils of our great land..
But tell me, what do we undertand
of the bloody past that we have not seen?

Where is our contribution
when we do but our own selfish deeds
for what is our jubiliation
when we see not the nations greater needs

The rich getting richer
The poor .. the poorer
flashy mobiles and fancy cars
while half the population starves?

What justice in celebrating today
60 years of independance we say
when we see not more than our nose
how to accumulate money by the crore?

True we are striving ahead
all of us here.. I am sure are well fed
But the battle now is a different kind
Look at the present, leave the past behind

There is no point of just singing praises
for framed pictures of famous faces
when in our hearts we really feel
its just another holiday.. some rest to steal

Its time to awaken my bretheren
If u are loyal sons of the nation
Be more than the trumpet that just blows
when its fingered for stage shows..
