The Greedy Squirrel....

This poem is on the simple subject of greed .. I thought of a squirrel in search of nuts as an ideal yet simple way to potray this universal truth.. read on

The squirrel approached this beautiful nut
lying on the ground just besides my hut
He was excited at his finding, i could see
the way he scampered around, oblivous of me

He pawed it once, he pawed it twice
gripped it in his teeth with an awesome vice
looked this way, that way, here and there
flicked his furry tail triumphantly in the air

But as he was about to take my leave
he saw a sight he could not believe
not one, not two, not three, not four
but a jar full of nuts by my door!

His eyes lit up with a twinkling greed
obviously he was overcome by a larger need
threw the precious nut in hand did he
and scampered to the jar quickly

Alas the nuts were behind the glass
and the lid secured on pretty fast
the squirrel looked back in dismay
for his only nut the crow had taken away!
