The Duel...

My childish infatuation for men who behaved gallantly and settled scores with a wierd sense of honour is seen in this piece.. Its a common tale quite often heard, with a twist in the end to spur the imagination of the reader.. enjoy!

The two men stood far apart
their duel was ready to start
each wore a grim look on his face
dare not back out for the disgrace

The pretty lady sat in the shade
fanned and comforted by her maid
Her eyes open wide with childish fear
for One would die, she was sure

She knew them both equally well
they both loved her, she could tell
she wished she could have done something
Even split herself in two for the giving

But the age old story had to unfold
the fight for a woman had to be told
two men dueling to win the ladys favour
A triumphant story of bravery and honour

The gentlemen stole her a longing look
her captivating beauty in they took
unfair that it would be settled this way
but her with the other, neither could bear

Two shots rang out in the the fight
The lady almost fainted at the sight
for both men had buckled at the sound
each sprawled akwardly on the ground

As the bodies were silently carried away
Onlookers felt sorry for the Lady that day
At the end she had lost both her gallant men
her life would be empty, it seemed to them

The story would have ended there
but for a twist found by the coroner
both men had been shot in their back
and neither had yet fired his revolver..
